On June 30, 2018 the 42nd meeting of the Japan Association for Asian Englishes was held at Chukyo University in Nagoya.
This past spring, one of the ALL Rooms Directors, Dr. Hamada, led a group of ALL Rooms student staff in a research project. The project was about how Japanese students attach the suffix -san to their Japanese peers’ names, even though this isn’t done in standard English.
The three students worked hard at interviewing subjects and putting together a presentation of their results, which they titled “What We Call Each Other? With san, without san, or nickname?” and delivered in Nagoya.
